Sustainable Sakky

Savo Consortium for Education has been systematically promoting sustainable development for nearly 20 years. We have developed education, daily operations, organizational culture, and leadership to be more responsible. Examples of our daily practices include calculating our own carbon footprint, conducting responsible procurement, and offering organic oatmeal to our students. Our work in sustainable development is guided by the Fair SAKKY Responsibility Program.

Our primary mission is to educate professionals for the workforce who can act responsibly and in line with sustainable development. In our education, we also provide tools for improving responsibility within one's workplace or industry. Our educational fields have set their own sustainability competence promises, which help concretely define the sustainability skills of our graduating students for both students and employers.

We utilize the indicators for a sustainable future from the OKKA Foundation in promoting and assessing our own sustainable development efforts, and Savo Vocational College has been awarded the certificate for vocational schools' sustainable development.

Nordic Swan Eco Label

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Savon ammattiopisto is a pioneer in Nordic Swan Ecolabel construction. Our Iisalmi campus became the first educational building in Finland to receive the Nordic Swan Ecolabel in 2020. We achieved a double victory as our newly constructed Varkaus campus building also earned the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The new section of Toivala campus is completed, and we will celebrate the Nordic Swan Ecolabel there in 2023.

United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 goals

In line with our vision, we advance sustainable development, particularly promoting the following United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 goals: quality education, decent work and economic growth, responsible consumption, and climate action.

Workplace responsibility

We actively promote corporate and workplace responsibility through supplementary education, projects, and development services. We have, for instance, advised companies on building environmental systems, guided the identification and assessment of environmental impacts, improved the responsibility of procurement and subcontracting, trained personnel in environmental matters, and developed waste management. We are involved in both regional and national development efforts to increase workplace responsibility.
